Welcome to Robins class web page!
This term our theme is 'If you go down to the wooods today...'
We have planned a trip to Batsford Arboretum where the children will lern about different types of trees, seasonal changes and have the opportunity to collect leaves, cones and seeds. They will discover what the tree for their house group looks like and whether they are evergreen or deciduous.
Our home corner is set up as a woodland and animal habitat.
In English we will start the term writing versions of the well known story by Michael Rosen 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', followed by a recount of our trip to Batesford and later in the term autumn poetry.. In maths we will be looking at place value, number, addition and subtraction. We will continue throughout the term to learn quick recall of number facts to 10 and 20 and practice counting in twos, fives and tens.
The children will sit a phonics screening check this year and so we will be working on sounding and blend accuratelyto read words, these are not always proper words so please help your child at home through regular reading to carefully sound and blend. This term we are looking at spelling high frequency words that the children will meet regularly and are expected to spell instantly and accurately in their writing, so these will form the words the children will bring home to learn for their weekly spelling test. Please continue to hear your child read at home at least 3 times a week. Early reading is essential to support the children in their speaking and listening, comprehension and writing skills. please remember the pictures are also an important part of early reading and so it is important to use them to build up the context of what is happening before they start to read the words on the page. thay can also help the children make predictions and to answer questions about what they have read. Thank you for your support in this.
PE is on Monday, this term the children will be doing Rugby Tykes indoors. Please make sure your child's PEkit is in school all week. . Every other Friday the children will bedoing Forrest School with Mrs Benion or Miss Drake. We may need to swap some Fridays but will let you know. The children can wear their Forrest school clothes into school and keep them on all day.
